| Over the last few years there have been many debates about contests,the behaviour of contesters and what the ever increasing number of contests is doing to the hobby. Some say it is the only way forward,the TINA principle,there is no alternative (sounds familiar!) Others argue that far from being the saviour of [...] Some Yahoo groups have been buzzing this week after news filtered out that the latest International Amateur Radio Union, IARU, meeting had recommended that the 40m QRP centre of activity be moved from 7030Khz. There was some confusion as to what was really happening and it turned out a move was discussed but not recommended. [...] The RSGB news pages are carrying a clarification as to who is responsible for investigating interference to broadcast transmissions and amateur radio. The RSGB say: The position is that the BBC is now responsible for investigating interference affecting domestic TV &radio broadcast reception. The idea is that if they had more power,1.5Kw,it would help them compete with the big guns. My biggest concern is that contests already cause a lot of problems and that increasing power limits will just increase the QRM levels [...] There has been an exchange of letters in Rad Com (the RSGB journal) about amateur radio and the internet. Evidently contesters are using the internet to connect to remote stations in other countries. Some say this is a legitimate use of technology while others say it is unfair and amounts to cheating.
